Ned is the ultimate definition of a master framer. He makes his frames from his own trees! His passion for wood is obvious in the history he maintains of the frame's origin; a hickory tree he felled in 2002, or a cherry tree that fell in the ice storm of 1998. Ned also uses black walnut, white pine, red and white oak, cedar and other beautiful New York woods from his farm or lands nearby. He then cuts the tree into planks and dries them to the appropriate moisture content in his solar wood kiln. Ned sands and polishes this New York wood into the beautiful frames for the vintage advertising and ephemera he carefully preserves. Ned also uses antique barn wood, rich in history and color, and irreplaceable in character. His signature fish hook imprint on each frame is your assurance that your framed print is a genuine Martelle.
